Double-storey Extension, East Bergholt
Unleashing property potential with a two storey extension
We worked around numerous challenges to complete this double-storey extension in East Bergholt, Suffolk, but our wonderful clients Janet and John are delighted with this stunning addition to their home.
This home extension and refurbishment project started just before the first national lockdown was announced in March 2020. As a result, like building contractors all over the UK, we faced problems sourcing materials as well as working safely around ongoing government restrictions.
This property extension was designed around our client’s accessibility needs, with level wheelchair access required from the property entrance through the first floor, and second floor via a new lift. This is a beautifully designed property, showing that accessibility doesn’t need to mean comprimising on design.
Internally, we opened up ground-floor space with beautiful parquet wooden flooring in a herringbone design, creating a seamless transition to the new lift from the front door of the house.
Due to the property’s close proximity to the coast, specialist roof lights were manufactured to protect them from saltwater residue in the air and ensure longevity.
To provide wheelchair access, our landscaping and groundworks team installed a smooth tarmac drive running from the front and around the side of the property to make the entire house and garden area wheelchair accessible.
A modern log burner was added to the living room to create the perfect place to relax with anti-slip specialist flooring added to both bathrooms to provide extra safety.

John O’Connell and his team went out of their way to minimise disruption and problems, particularly during the Covid lockdowns, working very hard to create the home we wanted. We can’t thank them enough
